What Makes a Great Personal Trainer? (And Why I Became One)

When people ask, “What makes a good personal trainer?”, they often expect answers like: someone who’s certified, who knows how to build a workout plan, or who can help you lose weight.

But for me, going back to school to become a certified personal trainer wasn’t just about offering a new service or learning how to train someone else. It was about something far deeper—investing in the knowledge of how to live well.

I wanted to understand how to:

  • Build real, lasting muscle

  • Strengthen my bones and body from the inside out

  • Protect my energy and mobility for decades to come

  • And most of all, extend the quality of my life—not just the years

Make a plan for you.
Make a plan for you.

Why I Chose This Path

My life led me to a place where I didn’t just want to get stronger—I needed to. Mentally, physically, emotionally. I needed the discipline of movement, the structure of training, and the science to back it up.

And once I started walking that path, I couldn’t help but want others to come with me. Not out of obligation—but because when you feel your best, you want the same for those around you.

Movement Is Medicine

The truth is, movement changes everything.

It’s not about the number on the scale—it’s about being able to carry your groceries at 70, play with your kids without pain, or take on your next business idea with confidence and stamina. It’s about training for independence, for strength, for longevity—and for the power to live your life fully, on your terms.

That’s why I became a personal trainer. That’s why I built Power of 30. And that’s why I believe that the best personal trainers don’t just give you workouts—they give you a new standard for what’s possible in your life.
