When my daughter Aurora was born with a cleft palate, our lives changed in ways we never anticipated. We became regular visitors at BC Children’s Hospital, a place that soon felt familiar yet brought a whirlwind of emotions. Each visit combined uncertainty, resilience, and the remarkable strength children naturally possess.

Amid this new reality, we made a significant choice: we decided to transform our hospital experiences. Instead of letting fear and anxiety take over, we committed to fostering joy. Each visit became a chance to create moments of happiness, not just for Aurora, but also for the many children we met along the way.

Bringing gifts for the children became a cherished routine. It wasn’t just about the toys or smiles; it was about forming connections with other families. When you lift a child’s spirits, you uplift an entire family. Anyone who has cared for a child with medical needs knows that this journey impacts everyone at home. A small act of kindness can shift the energy in a room, reminding every parent, nurse, and sibling that they are not alone.

We named our effort "Art for Heart," a way to spread joy through the simple act of sharing toys and creative kits with children in need. In the last two years, we have delivered over 200 art kits and toys, ensuring that countless children experienced moments of laughter and creativity during their hospital stays.

This Month’s Mission: A Birthday Celebration with a Purpose

This October, Aurora will return to BC Children’s for another procedure, and she plans to channel her courage into giving. As she celebrates her 6th birthday, her goal is to gift joy to other children who will be in the hospital during her visit.

We aim to raise $1,500.

Every donation will directly fund the purchase of toys, dolls, and creative kits that we will personally deliver to the children. This initiative embodies more than just gift-giving; it represents a commitment to creating shared moments of happiness that ripple through families and medical staff alike.
